It is hard to believe that we are already a week into the 5th 6 weeks. Report cards go home today!
Next week is a busy week. All students will take a literacy benchmark and those students in math 8 and geometry will take a math benchmark. The test will take two classes between Feb 26 and March 3. Please do everything possible to make sure your child(ren) is/are here to take the test and the results will be used to make important instructional decisions. In my math 8 classes, students will receive a classwork grade for showing their work in their test booklet. Please encourage your child(ren) to show their work so that I can know what they were thinking when they arrived at their answers. The benchmark will contain questions on topics we have covered all year long. A great place to start preparing is the GoMath textbook. There is even a benchmark for 8th grade at the front of the book on page TX17 through TX 21.
We will also take a field trip to HSPVA to see the Color Purple on 2/25/2020. It is very important that your 8L child(ren) be in the gym at 8:30 next Tuesday morning so that we are able to take attendance, board the buses and arrive at PVA by 9. A big thank you to the parents that were able to volunteer to help us at the last minute to make this opportunity available to the cluster. An even bigger thank you to Mr. Wheat for finding the funds to make this additional field trip possible.
Looking into the future, we will need parent volunteers on March 27 and May 13. On March 27, we will be on campus, but in alternate learning environments (not our classrooms) and with a few extra adults we will be able to really make the most of the day. On May 13, we will be going on our planned field trip to the Holocaust museum and to Hermann park to participate in community service. Please look for sign-up genius emails some time next week!
Last call for cluster fees, I think I mean it this time! The cluster fee is a $20 fee to cover expenses for our 8L field trip on May 13. If you are paying the fee this late, I ask that you please send your receipt to me at email@example.com as proof of payment. This fee is different from the $88 Great8 fee that covers the end of year expenses to celebrate promotion out of middle school.
There will not be 8L math 8 or Algebra tutorials on Tuesday 2/25 or Wed 2/26.
If your child(ren) failed the Algebra quiz on Exponent Rules and Polynomial Multiplication there will be a retake at the start of class next Thursday and Friday. Quizzes will be returned 2/21 and 2/24. It seems obvious, but without some intervention grades are unlikely to go up. The highest grade that can be earned is a 70% if the quiz is 100% accurate.
